My pick of the day is this beautiful song I chose as my tribute to one of my most favorite lyricists, Kaviraj Shailendra on his birthday....Born Shankardas Kesarilal, he is popularly known as Shailendra....He was first discovered by Raj Kapoor who gave him his first break in movies by having him write the lyrics for Barsaat and Shailendra never looked back...Raj Kapoor also gave him the most appropriate title Kaviraj meaning King of Poetry......He won three Filmfare Best Lyricist Awards and a several nominations....Kaviraj teamed up with Shankar-Jaikishan and Hasrat Jaipuri to form a formidable team that ruled the Hindi music industry for over two decades...He also worked with many other composers...Shailendra produced a movie of his dreams, Teesri Kasam which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. The song won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist...This inspirational song is close to my heart...Maana aaj ki raat hai lambi, maana din thha bhari...Par jag badla badlegi ek din taqdeer hamari...Us din ke khwab sajao...Mein gawoon tum so jao...It is sung by Rafi Sahab who gave an amazing rendition...It is pictured on my second most favorite actor Shammi Kapoor who did an awesome performance in the movie....SJ gave a superb composition for this number.
