Surf report for Doheny State Beach: South Orange County South OC Afternoon Regional Update: A small-scale blend of easing NW swell and minor SSW swell continues this afternoon with knee-thigh zone surf at the better exposures. Top breaks hit waist high to slightly better on occasion. Decent surface conditions at report time thanks to a light westerly breeze. The tide hits a -0.24 LOW around 4:30pm. New WNW swell starts to move in late. This mornings dawn patrol: Not quite enough SSW swell to get things going. Pretty flat with an occasional trace line. Flat ift.tt/JXCcJw Slow start today with mainly just some minor leftover NW swell mix in the water. We also have a small, out of season, SSW swell coming through providing slightly improved shape than we have seen recently, and adding a little more energy to breaks that favor the Southerly direction. Waves are generally staying around the waist high and under mark, while standout winter spots see occasional stomach/chest high sets. Look for wave size to increase later in the day as we should see some long-period forerunners of a new, relatively solid WNW swell build in, potentially providing some plus sets before dark. Due to the long-period, expect these forerunners to be a little selective. Thanks to a very active NPAC this will be the first swell in a series of WNW swells headed our way, and should build more overnight and Sunday, before topping out early Monday and showing good/solid energy throughout the region. Tide is on the rise right now and will top out at 9:38am at 5.33 feet and will be dropping all day to -0.24 feet at 4:33pm. Favorable winds this morning are once again providing clean conditions.
