Survival Watch A Prepper isnt someone sitting around wearing a tin foil hat waiting for for the aliens to land, or a loner up in the mountains all alone waiting the end of the world. Prepping is simply a movement of people who see that the world could possibly be on the verge of a change and theyre preparing for whatever it may be. Were always hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Whether it be a natural disaster such as an Economic Collapse, Tornado, Hurricane, Flood, Solar Flare, War, etc wouldnt it be nice to have some supplies in order just in case you need them? In modern society, any deviation from the accepted norm is met with ridicule, harassment and possibly discredited. This itself is a form of self policing and is used to encourage a more positive behavior that conforms with public expectations. This is an age old procedure relied upon by governments, religions and even peer groups. It plays on mans innate desire to associate himself with, or to be accepted by his peers as an equal, better explained in Maslows Hierarchy of Needs. This background is provided as a platform for a scenario playing out around us every day. In this discussion, I will be using a sampling of people who have coined themselves preppers. The term prepper is a derivative of preparedness, preparation, or preparing. Webster defines preparation as: 1. The action or process of making something ready for use or service or of getting ready for some occasion, test or duty. 2. A state of being prepared. 3. A preparatory act or measure Preppers are not a class of people outside their peers, but an integral part of their communities. Preppers are your neighbors, friends possibly even your local civic or cultural leaders, or maybe even your childs youth league coach. Contrary to the negative image portrayed on public television, not all live in fear of a doomsday apocalyptic future. Most simply wish to ensure the stability of their current lives continue unabated. Prepping as a term is not all inclusive. There are many chapters, levels and directions grouped together under the title, and each associated with an individuals specific concerns. Some focus their interests in long term food storage as an answer to interruptions in food supplies. Some on alternative energy sources in response to a temporary or extended disruption in the power grid. Others practice survival and bush-craft skills as a safeguard against civil unrest. Whatever direction chosen, all share the same basic principal - To have safeguards in place that will permit them to rely upon themselves and the provisions made, without the need for outside involvement. This is what Survival Watch is all about. ~ Tom Retterbush, Founder
