Swami Vivekananda (12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902), born Narendra Nath Datta, was an Indian monk and chief disciple of the 19th-century saint Shri Ramakrishna. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. He was a major force in the contribution to the concept of nationalism in colonial India. Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission. He is perhaps best known for his inspiring speech which began, Sisters and brothers of America ..., in which he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the Worlds Religions in Chicago in 1893. Born into an aristocratic Bengali family of Calcutta, Vivekananda was inclined towards spirituality. He was influenced by his guru, Shri Ramakrishna, from whom he learnt that all living beings were an embodiment of the divine self; therefore, service to God could be rendered by service to mankind. After Shri Ramakrishnas death, Vivekananda toured the Indian subcontinent extensively and acquired first- hand knowledge of the conditions prevailing in British India. He later travelled to the United States, representing India at the 1893 Parliament of the World Religions. Vivekananda conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and classes, disseminating tenets of Hindu philosophy in the United States, England and Europe. In India, Swami Vivekananda is also known as the Patriotic Saint and his birthday is celebrated in our country as National Youth Day. * स्वामी विवेकानंद (12 जनवरी 1863-4 जुलाई 1902) का वास्तविक नाम नरेंद्र नाथ दत्त था. वे एक महान भारतीय संत और श्री रामकृष्ण परमहंस के अनन्य शिष्य थे. वे भारतीय वेदों, दर्शन और योग के एक ऐसे संवाहक थे, जिन्होंने इस विश्व-पटल पर पहचान दिलायी. 19वीं शताब्दी के अंतिम दौर में उन्होंने ही हिंदुत्व को विश्व मंच पर एक प्रमुख धर्म के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया. औपनिवेशिक भारत में राष्ट्रवाद का सूत्रपात करने में उनका महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा...स्वामी विवेकानंद ने रामकृष्ण मठ और रामकृष्ण मिशन की स्थापना की. उन्हें अमेरिका स्थित शिकागो में वर्ष 1893 में आयोजित विश्व धर्म महासभा में भारत की ओर से सनातन धर्म का प्रतिनिधित्व करने और उनके ओजस्वी संबोधन अमेरिकी बहनों और भाइयों के लिए ख़ासतौर पर जाना जाता है...कोलकाता के एक कुलीन बंगाली परिवार में जन्मे विवेकानंद का झुकाव बचपन से ही आध्यात्म की ओर था. वे अपने गुरू श्री रामकृष्ण से काफी प्रभावित थे. रामकृष्ण के निधन के बाद उन्होंने बड़े पैमाने पर भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप का दौरा किया और ब्रिटिश राज में भारत की परिस्थितियों का ज्ञान प्राप्त किया. उसके बाद उन्होंने अमेरिका की यात्रा की और भारत का नेतृत्व किया. उन्होंने सैकड़ों प्रवचन दिए...भारत में स्वामी विवेकानंद को देशभक्त संत के रूप में भी स्मरण किया जाता है और उनके जन्मदिवस को देशभर में राष्ट्रीय युवा दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है.
