Swaraj Yatra (Washington DC to New York) Day 2 - TopicsExpress

Swaraj Yatra (Washington DC to New York) Day 2 update::::: Today, our “yatris” started at the University of Delaware and traversed 17 miles to the Hindu Temple at Hockessin. As the duo is completely exhausted, one can easily make out the thrill in their voices. Akshay has proudly donned “chappals” for this trip. “I wanted to feel like an Aam Aadmi – chappals and no sunscreen!” Jayesh had quite the time with his new pair of sports shoes. “I realize I need to get out of my desk and walk a lot more. I wonder how those women in villages walk so many miles every day just to fetch water.” Indian women in villages can take up to six trips a day to gather and transport water. These walks in rural regions can average ten miles a day, carrying up to fifteen liters every trip1 . The yatri team was lost for a good 2 miles. “Losing your way when you are driving does not matter, losing 2 miles while on your tired feet – No fun!” But then the way to true democracy is always a little lost –you make mistakes, head the wrong way, retrace your steps to where you began until you find your way back to where you are destined to go. We, the people of India, have to backtrack sixty-five years of decadent politics and finally are headed to where we were supposed to be headed, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC.
