Sweet memories lay softly on The pages of my mind With tenderness they call me back To long since by-gone times But yesterday’s a memory Though magic it now seems I’m stranded in this moment’s time Tomorrow’s still a dream I see the little boy who played Once in a summer’s sun Before his Grandma passed away And childhood days were done I smell the honeysuckle air As pine trees softly sway I gently turn pages of time To view my yesterday Some of the pages are yellowed I read through fading words And live again a memory As Grandma’s voice is heard She says “I love you Baby Boy” And gives a hug to me Those words spoken a million times In hallowed history A fragile piece of parchment found Made with a border lace A picture of the day I wed I see her smiling face So many years she’s stood by me The storms have weathered well The times we’ve laughed and times we cried Far too many to tell I softly turn the page to find When our children are born I think of all the laughter shared …My Father’s page is torn… He could not help the man he was Or hurtful words to say Yet I hope he has found some peace To God I humbly pray I look at my tomorrow as An empty page to pen As I thumb through my yesterday I’d do it all again I would not change a single day Despite the times of pain For all was written in this book Where memories remain How many pages still to write Is something I can’t know But I’ll fill every page I can With life before I go And when the final page is done I hope to be recalled As someone who lived his life well And loved...above it all
