Sweet, sweet love story to share. Saturday we went to Memphis to witness the nuptials of our nephew Jason and his bride Elizabeth. This was a special wedding on several counts. Let me go back to the beginning of Jason’s story. Over forty years ago, when he was a baby, his dad was killed in a car accident. After his dad’s death, for a time Jason and his mom lived with us. My son, who was about 6 months older than Jason, slept at one end of the baby bed, and Jason at the other. From then on, Jason was much more a sibling to my children than a cousin. He became a fine young man and we kept waiting to see whom he would choose for a bride. He turned 40, still a confirmed bachelor, so we sort of decided, ok, it’s probably not going to happen. But then… Elizabeth entered the picture. She came from Memphis to stay with my daughter Laura for a while to help with the home school. Elizabeth had never married. I would not dare to state her age because she might read this post and kill me, but suffice it to say in her own words she had waited a long time for her prince charming to come. My daughter saw a wonderful match in the making. One tiny problem arose when Jason refused to even come meet Miss Elizabeth, and further more, swore he would not darken the door until he knew the young lady was gone for good. (Me thinks he was sick and tired of friends and family trying to set him up) Ahhh…but on Valentines Day, two years ago, when a dejected Elizabeth announced at the breakfast table, “Happy Singles Awareness Day, everyone,” daughter decided to take action. She phoned Jason and told him in no uncertain terms (as only an older sister can) that he was going out to dinner with them and he was meeting her friend. Afraid that strong arm tactic might not be enough, she added that she would bet him all the money in her purse against all the money in his wallet that if he met the girl, he would be on the doorstep every night thereafter begging for a date. Later that evening at dinner, he took out his wallet and slid all his cash across the table to Laura. As Paul Harvey would say, “Now you know the rest of the story.”
