Swingers is a fantastic comedy about a bunch of unemployed actor friends, set in the nightclubs of LA and casinos of Vegas. Mike (Jon Favreau) has broken up with his girlfriend of six years and is feeling insecure and sorry for himself so his over-confident friend Trent (a truly hilarious and brilliant Vince Vaughn) is trying to get him back out of his shell and back into the dating scene. The problem is that Trent just want to get girls into bed whilst Mike is actually looking for romance and love. Together with a group of their friends, these guys hit the uber-hip and slightly surreal Los Angeles nightlife scene looking for women and a good time. Swingers was the breakthrough for both Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau (who co-wrote the script and would go on to direct the first two Iron Man movies) as well as director Doug Liman, who would start the Bourne franchise. The film also has some great references to both Goodfellas and Reservoir Dogs. Iconic shots from both movies are recreated and theres even a scene where the guys are sitting around a table talking about how Reservoir Dogs rips of stuff from Goodfellas. And if youre a guy whos relationship has messed up and who has had his heart broken by his girlfriend, this is the perfect movie to watch to make you feel better. This movie is so money.
