SÃO TOMÉ, December 2, 2014 — Island Nation São Tomé & Príncipe Responds to Emma Watsons #HeForShe Movement by Launching Domestic Violence Film Kickstarter Campaign The film titled Elsa Figueira deals with a young woman standing up to violence from the man she loves. Were creating a strong female character to inspire women and girls all over the world to empower themselves, said Katya Aragão, Executive Producer of the film, following Iceland and India also announcing their participation in the global #HeForShe campaign. Elsa Figueira is part of The Wê Anthology film series that takes its name from Wê, eyes in the São Tomé language. What our eyes can see, we can change, explained Pekagboom, musician and author of the story. The film is co-produced by the Santomean NGO Galo Cantá, known for organizing TEDxSãoTomé and directed by Kris Haamer from HAAM—GEN—Z, a transmedia producer that creates experiences for Generation Z. Elsa Figueira is a tribute to Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Like with the TEDx, the goal is to change minds, and through minds, change realities, said Enerlid Franca e Lagos, co-producer of Wê and TEDxSãoTomé. Until the Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, the producers are raising 10.000 USD on the all-or-nothing crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
