T&T win, Guyana, Windwards draw (Submitted by Sports Journalist) The third day of the fourth round of matches in the Regional Under 19 tournament was completed today across three venues in St Kitts. Here are the details: AT CONAREE - Guyana v Jamaica Fabian Allen and Brandon King both hit scores in the 90s but couldn’t force a result for Jamaica on the third and final day against Guyana. Having been in early trouble late on Day 2, Allen and King added 146 runs for the fourth wicket to deny Guyana any real chance of forcing an outright victory. King made 91 as Jamaica went to Lunch, losing just the one wicket in the first session of play at 189/4. Allen was unbeaten on 77. Both Allen and Ramaal Lewis kept building Jamaica’s total, taking the score past 200, mindful they had a first innings deficit of 53 runs. As King had fallen on 91, Allen would also suffer the same fate, falling on 94. Jamaica went to Tea on 257/6, which an overall lead of 204 runs, but there was still no declaration. Shortly after Tea, the Jamaicans declared on 281/9, setting Guyana 228 to win. Despite taking two quick wickets and having Guyana reeling at 7/2, both captains there wasn’t enough time for either side to force a result and shook hands on a draw. Guyana, who came away with first innings earned six points while Jamaica got four, cutting the lead at the top of the table. Having bowled out the Windwards on Day 2 for 245, Barbados were in trouble in their bid to get first innings points. At stumps on Day 3, the Bajans were 155/7, still needing 90 runs to overhaul Windwards’ first innings score. The last three batsmen didn’t put any resistance, adding just 14 runs on the morning of Day 3. Barbados were bowled out for 169, giving the Windwards a lead of 76 runs. Gidron Pope, who has been struggling with the bat this season, again failed falling for 4. The Windwards were in early trouble at 5/1. Tonius Simon hit a quick 20 but it was Keone George and Taryck Gabriel that repaired the early damage. Gabriel fell on the stroke of Lunch though as the Windwards went into the break on 47/3, leading by 123 runs. Persaud had taken two wickets for Barbados. After the break, George continued on strongly, trying to build partnerships along the way. It was a tricky period for the Windwards, who led by 146 runs when Gian Benjamin fell for 7, but felt it was still too risky to declare. George went on to hit 52 as the Windwards went to Tea at 135/8. By that time, Persaud had nabbed 5-45. The Windwards would declare some time after Tea on 181/9, setting Barbados 258 runs to win. Larry Edward took two quick wickets but it was much too late in the day for the Windwards to force a win as the match ended on a draw with Barbados on 24/2. The Leewards started Day 3 on 16/0 in their second innings, trailing T&T first innings score of 318 by 153 runs. Openers Ross Powell and Keacy Carty didn’t last the first half-hour as the Leewards slipped into early trouble at 22/2. Things only got worse when Shaun Tuitt was caught at slip for six, leaving the Leewards 30/3. Christian and Williams tried to put partnership together taking the score past 50. After putting on 44 runs together though, Williams was caught at long-on trying to clear Joseph. The Leewards would lose another quick wicket when Louis was caught at mid-wicket for duck, sending the Leewards into Lunch at 75/5. Things didn’t fare much better after Lunch. Christian, who battled hard to 23, was out the fourth ball after the interval. Ali picked up his fourth wicket when Kavem Hodge was well caught behind. Hanley (19) and Parris (17) both got starts but failed to carry on. Jesse Bootan would wrap up the game for T&T, taking the final wicket of Wadwha as the Leewards were bowled out for 130, handing T&T victory by an innings and 82 runs.
