TAME YOUR DESIRES. Thursday, August 28 “One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple” Psalm 27:4 Generally speaking, human beings are creature of desires. From cradle we learn to crave! There is nothing wrong with this per se; except that if desires are not tamed they could become snares to the soul. Achan and Balaam will help to illustrate this amply. Achan you will recall was the man who took of the accursed thing and brought Israel to a standstill and a humiliating defeat at Ai. In his confession later he admitted that he saw some Babylonian garments and some gold and coveted it. At that point his desire to be enriched consumed his urge to obey God who had warned them to desist from such act. Balaam on his part had several warnings not to go along with the messengers of Balak. His own desire for honour and riches promised by Balak became overriding. In both instances the men became victims of their own desires. Here is the point we are making: knowing God will not necessarily remove the desires to have or to be from you. But the love of God will help you bring those desires under control if they run counter to His will. FURTHER STUDY: EPHESIANS 2:1-10 PRAYER: Father, purify my desires.
