TARGET EVERYWHERE Some years ago, it was the musician “Mandators” that sang the song “rat race”. That was when music was song with purpose, the era of real music; when musicians were not just musicians but as well prophets and instrumentalist in diverse forms. When it was like they sat down with God to see the future and put down the lyrics of their music, as He God would have it because the musicians were called by Him and not by the hunger for popularity or money; they had ears for music, they knew what it meant to combine all the musical cords to produce good soul heartwarming music that always remains evergreen. How I wish those days are here again; today only 5% of music produced meets the description above, I hope to be proved wrong. Otherwise, why is it that; when at parties once the DJ goes to the 80s, it is like don’t dare stop please………… Enough reminiscence on music of yesteryears but the song “rat race” came running to my mind, when I considered the craze for target being churned out every day by both those in tangible good business and intangible goods business. Like the rat, there is this endless insatiability by business owners; all because like I have pointed out in some of my write ups, corruption has so eaten deep into the fabrics of our individual lives that people in the desire to have so much to live up to standard they drive their subordinates like goats to achieve the insurmountable. Do not get it wrong, anybody that wants to grow above the minimum in life, must have a plan that is continually improved upon to allow for attainment for great expectations in life, but when the plan for such great attainment is set beyond the fact that there are goals set that do not defy certain challenges, then such plan becomes a total farce. Why on earth will young ladies and men be made and compelled to sell their dignity on the grounds of meeting target. Why on earth will young men and women be made to feel less a person because they cannot meet outrageous targets. It is true that there are men and women that are so lazy that they need to be taken to the river bank and thought how to squat and scoop water to quench their own taste. Even in scenarios like these there should still be respect for human rights. Aside from this, there is this local saying that; “all men have their different times when their God decides to celebrate them”. In driving any sales force; all human face that needs to be given, must be taken into consideration before you out rightly write off a member of your sales team. Where an organization made 100% of its target and even her surpassed it by another 20%. Careful consideration must be given to the prevailing condition under which such achievement was made before forecasting your target for the coming period. You do not expect a situation where a trader trading in sales of sanitizers today under the prevailing fear of Ebola to continue with the same profit next year when it is possible that several solutions would have been churned out to curb the deadly disease. That people in another sector compared to yours are doing so well is not enough to make comparison and drive your sales force to the point of selling their dignity. The most annoying part of some of this drive is the fact that some of the employers involved do not and are not ready to remunerate in accordance with the kind of disturbance they give to get such production.But you see, the law of sowing and reaping never fails both for the employer that pays his sales force well, when compared to other practitioners within the same industry and related industry; end up having a sales force that self-motivate themselves for the future good of the organization, because in the real sense; psychologically they have come to accept the business as their own because of the given encouragement. In the same vain, an employee or sales personnel may start out as the weakest link in a sales force, but where the individual is determined and putting in his best as established by the masters of the game who wrote various books on how they made it; they just might not need prayers as is the thinking of certain weak people. Funny enough the must genuinely successful people are not the best of religious persons; they are just crazy hard workers that never see reason to give excuse for failure. They are people who are ready to starve and deny themselves of temporary merriment just to give themselves and loved ones a better life. Another annoying part of entrepreneurs is the fact that some of them drive the sales force without working out modalities to give their clients the best. Aware of such deficiency they still have the effrontery to ridicule the sales team. We need realistic targets as required in SMART analysis and patience of very high degree backed up with good researching on how best to serve our customers, employees and management. Then and only then, will the geometrical progression of target success being desired, be certain for some employers; as against the arithmetic progression experienced by some employers. Patience, commitment, learning, researching, hard work and perseverance are the hall mark of big target as desired by all sales team lead. Moreover, individuals have the way they go about arriving at their goal depending on the degree of motivation open to them personally and collectively.
