#TBT Tonight on AMC, I watched Sixteen Candles (with Story Notes!) - TopicsExpress

#TBT Tonight on AMC, I watched Sixteen Candles (with Story Notes!) and noticed something for the first time. At the end of this movie when Samantha and Jake are telling their true feelings for one another, the background song is If You Were Here by Thompson Twins. The catchiness of the tune belies the lyrics pointing to an undercurrent of deceit. In another John Hughes film, Ferris Buehlers Day Off, towards the end of the movie Ferris and Sloan have a warm heart-to-heart talk about a positive future together. In the background plays The Edge of Forever by The Dream Academy. It is a beautiful number; if there was one song Id want to sing karaoke to, this would be it...if I ever learned to sing! The lyrics paint a portrait of a couple drifting apart. I wondered if Hughes was trying to make a point, what was it? All good things come to an end? Better to have loved than to have never loved at all? https://youtube/watch?v=lSXbFu3j5eQ
