THANKS to Deb for sharing her family history while here in Stratford. THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM (SNR) AND DOROTHY TAYLOR. William and Dorothy came to to Stratford in abt 1920-21, living in McAlister Street. Their block went all the way to McMillan Street where the boys (William Jnr, Stan, Les & Jack) would push Grace on a billy cart down to the Avon River below. All the children were born in Stratford except William Jnr who was born in Sale in 1920. It seems that William Snr came to Stratford because of work as a POLICE CONSTABLE. He also owned land in Raymond Street where he crushed rock which he and his sons collected from the Avon to build the road to Dargo. In March of 1930 Constable Taylor went to Melbourne, on her own Dorothy woke to find the walls ablaze and had to get her 5 children out of the home. Luckily the 5 children and Dorothy were safe but the home was gutted. This did not deter the family as they stay in Stratford till at least 1937 rebuilding their home. Daughter Grace carried mail from the train station to the post office where she helped sort the mail for some time. After leaving Stratford the family moved to Melbourne where William Snr is a Snr Sargent with the police according to his daughters marriage record. Daniel :)
