(THANKSGIVING MONTH / FACEBOOK FRIEND THURSDAY) ***AS YOU HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS WHOLE MONTH, WE HAVE BEEN POSTING UP ‘THANKSGIVING’ MESSAGES FROM OUR FRIENDS AND FOLLOWERS HERE AT BTTW CHURCH. MOST HAVE BEEN ONE TO TWO SENTENCES LONG BUT I RECEIVED THIS ONE ABOUT A WEEK AGO FROM MR. DEAN BIBB AND HE HAD SOMETHING HE WANTED TO SAY – Agree or Disagree with his post, but not denying he’s a man who believes in his convictions!*** Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, a time when we as Americans give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon us. And brother, there is a lot to be thankful for. For instance: ... Even the poorest American is among the top 2% of wealthiest people in the world. Even if you dont have a car, you live in a single bedroom apartment with one of those funky beds that fold into the wall and are so broke that your Bologna has no first name! ... Our government still assures us that we can do what we want as we pursue Life, Liberty and the Pursuit Of Happiness. On paper anyway... Just dont rock their boat or pay any attention to The Man Behind The Curtain. ... Our favorite sporting events, reality television shows, sweat-inducing dramas and vapid sit-coms are all only a click away... Just dont worry about a thing, They have it all under control regardless of what you see and hear that tells you otherwise. So we can just sit back and be thankful for all these blessings that we receive even if we have done absolutely nothing to earn them. Who said that? Did I just say that? Yep. You see, we can gather around our massive Thanksgiving feast and stuff ourselves with all manner of bird, pies, cranlog and that succulent bread that was surely the birds final meal because HEY look where its at and we can gripe about how much more time before our team takes the field and why they never broadcast the halftime shows anymore. We can do all this and more, because, hey man, Murca and stuff! We can have the time of our lives knowing that nobody is spraying a symbol showing that we dont believe like they do and that its gonna cost us a lot of hassle, grief, and more than likely, pain, suffering and probably our death or that of someone we care for if we stick around. We can rush off to get in line at Wal-Mart to swim in the mosh pit for a great deal on a big screen tv and RoKu box, wanting secretly to kill somebody who wont move their buggy out of the way or worse, who got the last of the one thing you wanted. The nerve of some people! Its not like were jumping up from our table at the sound of gunfire, fleeing our homes down along the backstreets with absolutely none of our own possessions; just the clothes on our backs because we believe a Galilean arose from the dead the resurrected Son Of God instead of a pale reflection of that belief, whose followers will be rewarded for beheading you if you wont convert to Islam. We can even choose to turn the channel when the commercials give way to a 60 second news blurb about some town in the Middle East being overran by a new caliphate dedicated to conversion or chaos. We can toss the newspaper and Time Magazine aside because the headlines wont stop blabbing about ISIS and Boko Haram. Its Thanksgiving, we dont want to hear about it any more. Weve heard enough. The nerve of some people. Yep, we sure have a lot to be thankful for as we enter the third week of Christmas displays in shopping centers. Seems like only yesterday it was Halloween displays. The big money making holidays get pushed in the marketplace while humble holidays such as this one get marginalized because it isnt about money. Its about giving thanks to God for what we have around us. Well, perhaps this year we should pause and give thanks for what we are not in the midst of. Yet. We as Christians in America know nothing about true persecution. We are facing threats to our freedom of expression from those who champion the LGBT agenda with their SOJE pushes in Houston TX and Beckley WV (What??? No way, not there!!!) *Yes, there, the city council takes a vote on the matter Tuesday 11/25* But nobody is trying to kill us for our faith. Hmm... Ever wonder Why? Why arent we being persecuted here like others are in foreign lands? I believe we arent a big enough blip on Satans radar to justify the action. Were just not a threat to his low brow kingdom. Were exactly where he wants us... Inactive, ineffectual, uninterested, unworthy. So whats the cure, you ask? You may not like the answer. We Christians are going to have to make some enemies. We must take stands on Biblical principles that will make us look like extremists. We are going to have to absolutely Gandalf this dark storm brewing across our great nation right here, right now, because we have lost enough ground as we lay asleep at the wheel thinking everything was groovy. Then we must look to regaining that lost ground. That type of thinking will make us very unpopular with powerful people and loud talkers. They will despise The Church, rise against it and paint it in ugly hues in an attempt to discredit it. Many will fall for the deception, and many of our own shall fall away. The Man will try to push us back through our church doors and threaten us with legalese if we dont say nice inoffensive things from the pulpit. This is all coming, Jesus and the prophets all say so. We must and will be persecuted for our beliefs. But Jesus says, I have overcome the world. He has us, and the world, in His Hand. Thats something to be thankful for, yes? Dean Bibb
