THE AMAL ALAMUDDIN- GEORGE CLOONEY WEDDING || Whilst everyones busy waiting for a glimpse of the dress (including me), there are many whose tongues have not stopped wagging about how a Moslem woman can marry a non-Moslem man. My thoughts and ppnderings: I am unsure of the true stance for this but i do understand that in our country and others, the man would have to convert before the marriage takes place. All the men who have married my friends and family have all converted without any problems or hesitancy. It has never been an issue and those who have converted have ended up more Moslem than the Moslem wife and even the Moslem community they live in. But there are other countries and other communities where it has been ruled totally acceptable for a Moslem woman to marry a Non-Moslem man as the Quran does not specifically state the rules for Moslem women, only Moslem men but since the very beauty of Islam is to place a woman at equal standing with the men, the same rules & standards for marrying Non-Moslems apply. I have been told time & again growing up that Islam is a progressive religion. What is not in the Quran is open to interpretation by the Ulamas and Scholars to deal with the evolution of society. I truly would like to believe this to be true. I am also an advocate of human rights and womens rights and i truly believe that Islam and its laws are compatible with human rights and the rights of women. I would therefore like to see more debate and thoughts on this issue. Have a look at this video and the arguments made as i do feel that it is an extremely fair argument in that it subjects the marriage of a Moslem woman to a Non-Moslem man to pretty much the same rules & responsibilities as a Moslem man marrying a Non-Moslem woman, if not stricter. (Maybe im just a sucker for happy endings, lights at the end of tunnels and dreams coming true at the end of the rainbow).
