THE ANGLICAN ARCHBISHOP ON THE DEATH OF THE PRESIDENT Lusaka, Zambia, 30/10/2014 Archbishop Albert Chama: “Peace and Unity should prevail even after the death of our President.” The Archbishop of the Church of the Province of Central Africa (CPCA), who is also Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Northern Zambia, the Most Revd Albert Chama, has mourned the death of Zambia’s President, His Excellency, Michael Chilufya Sata who died on Tuesday night at a UK hospital. “On behalf of all Anglicans in Zambia I would like to express our deepest sorrow at the loss of our beloved President Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata. He will undoubtedly be remembered by every Zambian as a doer and indeed man of action in terms of delivering development to the nation,” he said. Archbishop Chama also emphasised the need for peace in the country by referring to the country’s recent Golden Jubilee celebrations where Zambians from all walks of life gathered to celebrate the country’s independence despite their differences. “Peace and Unity should continue to prevail as it did under President Sata’s rule,” he said. “The Golden Jubilee which all Zambians celebrated last week is an indication that Zambians love and enjoy peace and unity.” He added: “At 50 years, Zambia continues to be a beckon of democracy and a centre for peace and harmony on the continent, and as the Zambia Anglican Church, we pray that God raises another credible leader to take this country to even greater heights.” He concluded: “But most of all, it’s his commitment to bringing development to the rest of the country that will be greatly missed. We pray that God gives us, and his family solace and peace during this difficult time.” The Secretary to Cabinet of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Roland Msiska, announced his death to the nation yesterday morning. President Michael Sata was born in Mpika Zambia in 1937 and was elected fifth president of Zambia on September 23, 2011 after a popular poll.
