THE AVALANCHES. Like the majority of Gen Y I had no idea this wonderful band existed until their smash hit “Frontier Phsyciatrist” hit the charts and things would never be the same again. This was also back in the year 2000 where this radical thing called the “internet” became widely available to everyone and the onslaught of musical downloading had just begun. I quickly got my hands on the entire album and was hooked. A dense album made of over 3500 samples spanning an epic story of love loss and adventure. It also proved to me that I wasn’t crazy or delusional there was in fact a gigantic world outside of Whyalla and I wanted to see it hear it and experience it. This album taught me you don’t need words to convey a mood feeling or point. Often words just get in the way. I have listened to this album countless times in the past 14 years and every single time I hear it I discover something new. It’s the kind of quality I have always aspired to me in my own short films.
