THE BRILLIANT MADNESS OF MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE While this kind of loud, yelling promo is often the source of pro-wrestling parodies enacted by those who only have an outsiders experience of the medium, this promo is subtly eloquent and positively brilliant. Savage is a powder keg of entertainment, pouring every ounce of energy into every word until he seems as though his entire body will finally burst at the mention of his beloved Elizabeth. Where there might seem to be nothing but random rage on display, yelling for the sake of yelling, Savage tells a story with a beginning, middle, and an end, detailing the reasons for his hatred of Hulk Hogan. We learn why Savage hates Hogan, and we see what kind of man Savage is and what he intends to do to his enemy. The variance in his volume, tone, and voice creates an aura of uneasiness, uncertainty, and even intrigue. The way Savage emphasizes words like liar and lie pierce the soul, for we feel his pain and his frustration. The promo is excellently framed within the larger battle for the WWE Championship, and serves as a seamless transition into an in-ring contest thanks to Savages well-timed comments about hating Hogans guts, and how his guts will be all thats left on the mat at Wrestlemania. This is the kind of off the cuff, thoroughly passionate work that leaves a positive, lasting impression on the art. Enjoy:
