THE CLOWN The Clown paints a smile on his face.. A pretense of all he cannot erase. A perpetual expression on an ever changing stage.. Yet the smile remains through every age. A tear drawn in the corner of his eyes.. Makes lite of the place where the real teardrop lies. His humor drawing laughter wherever he goes.. Like an addicting narcotic it sooths his woes. But the curtain will fall when the last act is done.. As the day comes to end as the setting sun. Alone with his mirror he removes the smile.. Exposing the frown that was there all the while. He searches his face as if a stranger’s eyes.. Deep to his soul where the real clown dies. By Tony Amico (September 8, 2014) Robin Williams passing and a focus on ‘suicide awareness’ played partly in my writing this.
