THE DANCE TRAINING PROJECTS BIRTHDAY! I can’t easily describe - TopicsExpress

THE DANCE TRAINING PROJECTS BIRTHDAY! I can’t easily describe the feeling that drove me to create the DTP... It was the creative fusion of need, frustration, determination, guilt, and the want for no dancer to screw up their career as badly as I did. 2 years ago today, when the DTP started as a summer training program for dancers, I had no idea what I was doing, or how to do it. All I knew was the change I wanted to see in the dance industry, and that I wanted to learn everything possible to make it happen- Get dancers strong and keep ‘em from getting hurt. I guess that desire for change was enough (and good thing it was, because I didn’t have a back-up plan). I want to express my extreme gratitude to everyone I’ve met along the way who helped me as I jumped, terrified and ignorant, into a field in which I have no formal education. Thanks to all my clients who have taught me so much (and to whom I hope I’ve been able to teach, too). Thank you to my teachers and mentors. Thank you to my friends and family who supported me without question. Thank you the people out there who actually read my blog and think its good enough to share. That means the world. And thank you to life’s hilariously evil ways of providing inspiration: injuries, pain, haters, and the many various ways the dance industry can damage one psychologically. For the future, I can only anticipate excellence. I hope that in my life-time we can make education on injury prevention and strength development an integral part of every dancer’s training. That we can let go of out-dated paradigms that lead to so much disappointment, injury, and frustration. Here’s to 2 years of dancing stronger, and many more to come :)
