THE FUTURE of Wallerawang Power Station has unfolded. After months of speculation Energy Australia today announced a planned reduction in generation from Wallerawang Power Station. The owners of the privatised Wallerawang and Mt Piper stations have today held meeting with employees. The company said that Wallerawangs unit seven will be removed from service next week and unit eight will continue to be available until the end of March at which time it will be placed on a three month recall should market conditions change. The company has blamed commercial coal supply shortages and declining energy demand for its decision. General manager Luke Welfare said there would be no changes to workplace arrangements until the full impact of operational changes have been evaluated. (Source Lithgow Mercury)
