THE GREAT CONTROVERSY WINS SOULS “ ‘Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed’ “ Isaiah 49:23 Brother Gayle, of West Jamaica, writes us this interesting account of how he heard of this blessed truth. “One evening during 1942, while sitting in my room, I heard a knock at the door. On opening the door, one of my friends greeted me with, ‘Gayle, let’s go to church tonight!’ I asked where, and he said, “To the Seventh-day Adventist tabernacle.’ After much persuasion, I decided to accompany him. The next evening this friend came with the same invitation, but I said, ‘No, never again!’ He pleaded with me until once more I gave in and went, though vowing this would be the very last time in my life to go to church. “Several days later, while resting in my room, there came another knock at my door, and at my call ‘Come in,’ a stranger entered with a parcel in his hand. He seated himself and began talking about a need for escape from the existing conditions of the world. Then he said, ‘Would you like to see a book that will bring you such knowledge?’ I, of course, became interested as he took out the book The Great Controversy and showed the pictures of Christ and Satan, saying, ‘You must follow one of these.’ For the first time in my life I was impressed with this fact, and I wanted to own that book. The stranger offered to leave his book with me for only $2, stating that the price was low comparison with the true value of the book. “As I had a check in my pocket at the time, which I had previously been impressed not to deposit, I pulled it out and said, ‘I will take this book.’ “As the man left, I began to read with increasing interest and soon accepted the glorious message it brought. Then I sent the book to my sister, and she read it and accepted the truth. Then took book was sent to my uncle, and he and his two sons became very interested and wish to become church members. I have given up my job with the railroad company, and my desire is to continue in the literature work until my dying day.” “Instruction has been given me that the important books containing the light that God has given regarding Satan’s apostasy in heaven should be given a wide circulation just now; for through them the truth will reach many minds. Patriarchs and Prophets, Daniel and the Revelation, and The Great Controversy are needed now as never before.
