THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY is a charming novel presented as a series of letters written in the year 1946 which focus on recollections of the German occupation of Guernsey, an island in the English Chanel, during World War II. Written by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, the novel has a host of engaging characters each of whom adds something to the story line. My Better Half and I listened to the audio version on a recent trip to be with family for a few days in Northern CA. It kept our minds pleasantly occupied as we drove through country we have seen a few zillion times in the last few decades.
