THE HOLY NATURE OF GOD: scientists say that the universe continues to expand at a rapid rate. The formula for this expansion is v=Hxd where H is a factor of 3.28 million light years and v is velocity, and d is distance. In short, the rate if this expansion is un fathomable and blows the fuses of the mind! The universe is enormous! Yet, the God of the Bible created this vast universe that itself is incapable of containing Him. He transcends this universe! Yet, the universe is infinitesimally small. Scientists have identified tiny particles in the universe called neutrinos. These particles have a mass of near zero and travel at nearly the speed of light! Thats right, almost 186,000 miles per second! A neutrino is so small, it can travel through the diameter of the earth without any resistance! What am I trying to say? The God who created the infinitely vast is the same God who created the infinitesimally small. He created atoms, quarks, which are given off at the collision of atoms and as some scientists say, the atom is a microcosm of sorts of the larger universe or, a small universe. In the same way that theres a vast difference between the size if the universe and the size of an atom; there is a vast difference between the immensity of Gods infinite mercy and the nature of man! Even the most benevolent of men is nothing but a speck in the ocean of Gods mercy! Moses understood this when God revealed a fragment of His nature to him in Exodus 34: 6, 7, And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation. I dont know if youve ever had a sense of your own unworthiness? This is what Moses felt when he had but a glimpse of the overwhelming mercy of God. He is a God that will forgive perversion, rebellion, and offenses! Moses understood the unworthiness of himself and the children of Israel. And, his response in the face of this overwhelming forgiveness and loving kindness led him to bow. What effect does Gods loving kindness have on you? How do you respond knowing that even your best is but a speck, in an eternal ocean of Gods constant forgiveness, new every morning like the waves that crash on the shores of a beach? May our response be as Moses. He is so merciful that He picks up even the trash that is our lives and takes it for His own inheritance. May it humble is today. PEV
