THE INTENTION (AL-NIYYAH) The Prophet (SAW) said Actions are judge according to intention... Intention is classified into two(2) viz: (1) Open intention: In this, the intention is verbally made in the heart and this intention is done for obligatory fasting, hajj, ritual bath etc. eg. When you want to perform ritual bath is compulsory for you to say Nawaitul gusulul janabati (2) Closed intention: This type of intention is not openly made but the action determines the intention. This intention is done for some ibadat such as involuntary fasting, salat. It is prohibited for you to make an open intention in salat (i.e in both voluntary and involuntary prayers) by saying Nawaitus salatuz zuhur. And all intentions should be made for the sake of Allah because any intentions made without Allahs sake (i.e for showoff) is considered valueless and it has no reward. And your intention should be good even if you are not opportune to do the work, you will earn a reward. eg one who intended to read quran but he is not opportune to do so due to his health problem or so, he will be rewarded as if he has read the Quran. May Allah makes our intentions always good and not for showoff
