THE PLOT LINE OF TRUE REVOLUTIONS When we look closely at history, we find a pattern that many of us are unprepared to acknowledge due to what we have been led to believe about political uprisings and revolutions. But, whether acknowledged or ignored, the truth stands and a scientific analysis of history reveals a general rule which attests that true revolutions in history are nothing but escalated quarrels amongst the rich and powerful. Great revolutions are frequently little more than intra-class squabbles, amongst those at the top of the food chain in society, which got out of hand and spilled over to consume the inhabitants of other social classes. This is a fact of history. Poor people and those at the bottom rungs of the socioeconomic ladder can be, and are usually, used as disposable canon folders, hired guns, mercenaries, and foot soldiers, for these ‘escalated rich men fights’. Nevertheless, this does not make it any less accurate that world historic revolutions are the pet peeve and tantrums of upper-class giants who are trying to have it their way or assert themselves forcefully against each other. A careful analysis of the major revolutions of recent centuries reveals this storyline. The bourgeois revolutions of liberals followed this plot line to perfection with a vengeance. The proletariat revolutions of socialists were acted out masterfully or amateurishly in different political stage around the world, based on this very script. This is the untold story of the American Revolution, where the rich Founding Fathers fought against the interests of the Aristocratic class of imperial Britain and won. This is the story of all the bloody French Revolutions that were punctuated violently with public beheadings at the guillotine and the outrageous excesses of the Jacobins. This is the story of the “English Revolution” that saw the rich and powerful gentlemen of Parliament successfully challenged the authority of the English Monarchy and its allies, i.e. the established church and feudal lords, in a life and death power struggle that ended with the execution of King Charles I in 1649 and the stellar rise of another member of the gentry class, Oliver Cromwell, to the position of Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. This is the exact storyboard from which the “Glorious Revolution” was made, as that quarrel of 1688 was basically a freak show of beer-belly big men pulling each other’s hair, spitting at each other’s face, and biting fiendishly hard at each other’s arms, in a little more than pub-fight over religious preferences that led to the overthrow of King James II of England by a coalition of conniving gang of influential Tories, Whig money men in the English Parliament, and the powerful Dutch mercenary stadtholder, sovereign Prince William III, who grew up in a honey-laced pool of luxury inside the wealthy House of Orange in the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. This is the story of the disastrously directed Russian Revolution of 1905 and the marvellously performed Bolshevik Revolution that graced the open-air theatre of Russian politics in 1917. This is the story of the spectacularly staged Chinese Revolution which roused to hellish crescendo in 1949, after the Long March rehearsals conducted by the unrivalled political stage manager and maestro of war orchestra, Mao Zedong. This is the story of the Orange Revolution that made spectators blushed to the point of both cheeks melting away like grated cheese under the volcanic heat of a farcical show-of-shame that forced so many people to suffer unbearably through a poor production that induced cringing sensations of toe-curling embarrassment in audiences taken hostage by the depressing sight of amateurish political histrionics and shabby theatrics, which were passed off – to the sheer horror and utter disbelief of the discerning few – as legitimate performance, across Eastern Europe. This is the story of the well financed, professionally stage-managed, Arab Spring revolutions performed across the Middle East and North Africa by a ragtag cast of amateurs with heavy background support from a mixed crew of seasoned foreign political actors and home-grown political performance veterans with foreign agents. Sorry to demystify the fairytale version of history. But, poor people are just too out of resources to spark and sustain revolutions. People from the lower classes can hardly sustain simple protests, maintain picket lines, or keep strikes going for days, before being forced back to the grindstone by the reality of unrelenting pangs of hunger that rudely overrule their well-meaning intentions, by the reality of naked violence that assault their decency with the embarrassing rumbling grunts of an angry empty stomach that is forced to bear witness to a sustained bowel batteries of putrid gaseous emission that escapes uncontrollably from the “rear” with foul smelly explosions, by a reality of deafening screams of their starving babies that cut into every sinew of their bleeding soul. And don’t be fooled by its ‘title’, the so-called “Working Class Revolution” is a part of the much glorified, albeit misleading, fairytale version of history. I hate to name and shame, but truth be told, the prophets and witch-doctors of Marxism were in most cases disgruntled giant gnats from upper-class families or rebelling spoilt brats from privileged backgrounds. This is a fact of the human condition. And, with the words contained in this page, history has spoken without fear or favour. (© Eziza O Eziza, 2013) [EDITED VERSION OF THE STATUS UPDATE BELOW]
