THE POLITICVS OF PDP IN KANAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT: FAIRNESS, JUSTICE AND EQUITY ARE THE REASONS WHY I AM SUPORTING ISA ADAMU JIKA part one. As the Local Government Election approaches in December, the entire structure of our Party is making efforts on the various Local Governments to ensure that justice and fairness prevail both at the primary and the final election. Kanam Local Government Area is no exception to this quest for justice and fairness. At the composition of Kanam Local Government Area since time immemorial, it has been a principle of rotation/zoning between the two ethnic groups of Bogghom and Jahr. It is this principle of fairness, equity and justice and also in line with the rotation/zoning convention that only the Jahr are the ones in the forefront to become the Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council. So far, and based on that zoning arrangement, there is nobody from the Bogghom ethnic group that is contesting that position. The Jahr in kanam Local Government Area has three clans namely: Badawa Area, Garga Area and Kantana Area. Among this clans, it has always been the desire of the various elders and stakeholders to make fair and equitable distribution of positions and resources among the various groups/clans. With the advent of the Local Government Election, the Jahr has narrowed the contest to only the Kantana Area which comprises the Kantana and Birbyeng Wards. The reason is because both the Garga and the Badawa Areas have held various positions on behalf of the entire Jahr and have also produced elected Chairmen in Kanam Local Government Area. Now, the Chairmanship has been zoned to the Kantana Area which comprises of the Kantana and Birbyeng electoral wards. Unfortunately and through some inadvertence, Kantana Ward turns out to be the dominant ward to the exclusion of the Birbyeng Ward which ordinarily should have been distributed equitably as was done in the case of the Bogghom and Jahr. It is clear that among the Jahr, it is the Birbyeng Ward within the Kantana area that has not benefitted from both elected and appointed positions. From the advent of political Democracy in Nigeria, my memory and histotry has the following various positions held by both Birbyeng and Kantana wards respectively; KANTANA WARD-(1) House of Representative 1983 (2)Care Taker Chairman 1985 (3)House of Assembly 1992 (4)Eastern Zone Party Vice Chairman 1992 (5)LGA Party Chairman 1999 (6)Executive Secretary Muslem Board 1999 (7)Plateau State Treasurer of PDP 2002 (8)Local Government Council Secretary 2004 (9)Aain Eexecutive Secretary Muslem Board 2005 (10)Commissioner 2005 (11) Special Adviser 2006 (12)Commissioner 2007 (13)Local Government Council Deputy Chairman 2008 (14)Special Assistant to the Governor 2013 among others. this various political positions both elected and appointed are held by Kantana Ward of Kantana Area. As for Birbyeng Ward of Kantana Area, from the inception of Party Politics, I ONLY KNOW OF MALAM ISHAQ ABDU, WHO WAS AND STILL SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO GOVERNOR FROM 2008 TO DATE. From 1979 to date, this is the only appointive position held by BIRBYENG Ward of Kantana Area. Since our zoning arrangement is in line with the Redemption programme of the Governor and since this is also in line with the principles of our Party and in my view which I am entitle to, that this zoning arrangement be extended to the benefit of the marginalised Birbyeng Ward within the Kantana Area so that all our people will live in harmony, unity and in support of the developmental democracy. In matter of truth, my support is not for JIKA as an individual but he happen to be only person contesting from the marginalised BIRBYENG WARD of kantana area. my nuetrality as a politician would have been possible if there are two contestants from birbyeng ward just like we have two from the dominant kantana ward. With this again, I would still support Birbyeng ward but in my nuetral capacity. And that is why when we zoned the position to the kantana area at the meeting of the LGA Executive Committee of the Party held at the LGA Edication Authority, Dengi, the person contesting from Garga area by constitution of NIgeria is qualify to contest this election but in the same spirit of fairness, eguity and justice he finally allow Kantana area. This is my sincere view which is not personal and it is not targeted at any body but to me, it is in the spirit of fairness, justice and equity. To be continue.....................
