**** THE POWER OF OUR INDIVIDUAL VOTE ***** The power of our vote is the single greatest tool we have to effectively bring about change. I have sat and listened to many people complain about the actions or inaction of a Tribal council member or about some Tribal policy that they feel unfair. When asked if they supported the Tribal official or proposed change to Tribal law they too often admit that they were too busy or that they had adopted a Why bother, my one vote wont make a difference. Of ALL the rights we have as Americans and Tribal members our most important and powerful is our right to Vote. Our single vote can be the one that makes the deciding factor in a close ballot count. Even if the issue or person we are voting for does not win in that particular election it sends a message that that person or issue has a certain level of support and may encourage that person running to continue their efforts and return next year to try again or sends a message to our leadership and fellow Tribal members that our specific issue may not have won this time, but it does have enough support to bring it credibility with our leadership and that it is a concern they should pay attention to. One person, One vote puts us all on the same level regardless of power or position. I strongly encourage each and every Tribal member and every American to remember the power they have and to NOT waste the opportunity when its available. If you live outside the area, absentee ballots are readily available. A new opportunity to exercise the power of our vote will soon be upon us and I strongly encourage each and every one of us to take the time to become familiar with the people and issues that will be placed before us and exercise both our RIGHT to be heard and our RESPONSIBILTY and make the effort to VOTE.
