THE PURSUIT OF PLEASURE: some of us may wonder why we have to give up our pursuit of pleasure. Often people of wealth and pleasure seem to be happier than we are. James reminded his audience that a selfish lifestyle inevitably leads to painful consequences. Some of us have already experienced the pain and emptiness brought on by selfish pleasures. A selfish lifestyle never yields lasting joy and peace..it always leads to some kind of bondage. When we make Gods Will our own and follow His program..we experience freedom and become a blessing to others. We have all probably asked ourself this question..why are these terrible things happening to me? This question might become especially urgent after we have entered the recovery process. We may recognize that God used our sufferings to get us started in our program..but why does He allow suffering to continue? Recovery is a painful..lifelong process. Just as our addiction didnt appear overnight..recovery will also take time.we need to learn patience as we take small steps forward..planting seeds that will yield a harvest of healing and restoration. God will nurture the seeds we have planted..transforming our life from the inside. Since God has the power to heal us Spiritually..emotionally..and physically..prayer is one of the most powerful tools available to us in recovery. When we pray to God..we call upon that power and display that faith that He can help us. Prayer is essential in the process of putting our broken life into Gods caring and capable hands. He is more than able to help us and guide us to blessings and peace. When our life seems out of control and we are in despair..we can begin the healing process by bringing our problems to God. He is listening..and He has the power to rebuild even the most shattered life.
