THE REFORMATION PROJECT conference in D.C. was by far the most memorable event of my year. After reading Matthew Vines book GOD AND THE GAY CHRISTIAN, I have been transformed as a GAY CHRISTIAN. I suddenly realized that so many of my LGBTQ brothers and sisters who attend predominately Gay Churches were basically there because their own family churches had rejected them. NOW churches are beginning to change in an exponential number. At the conference we assembled Baptist, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Presbyterians, Church of Christ and many more representatives in non-inclusive churches. For 3 days, we worshiped together and listened to remarkable speakers. We held panels/workshops to develop how to engage in civil conversation with non-inclusive people and churches. We carefully reexamined scripture that has been used against us. 376 of us left with a mission to bring dialogue back to our regions and churches. We are like the FREEDOM RIDERS of the 60s civil rights movement. I have become involved with the steering committee to bring the Conference to Atlanta in June. So much work to do. Even if you are in an inclusive church you can still benefit from these conferences. I hope my LGBT Christian brothers and sisters become involved. The South is the last bastion on Homophobia. I hope that many of you will come to the conference. It will be held at the Sheraton Downtown Atlanta. You can volunteer for a few hours at the conference and they practically erase the fee to attend. Early Bird rates of $99 before Jan 31 then it goes to $159. You will meet wonderful LGBT Christians and our allies. Soon they will be posting all the speakers for the event.
