THE SMART LANDLORD Some years ago, in the early 1990s, there was a private nursery and primary school, somewhere in my hometown.The Proprietor of this school is a retired headmaster and a disciplinarian.He worked so hard towards the success of the school, and his efforts yielded fruitful result.The School has a population of over 500 students but less than 1000 students. When the school was celebrating her 10th Anniversary, it was such a memorable and glorious day for the school, and it was well attended by parents and many VIPs in the society, and they donated generously towards the progress of the school. A month later, the proprietor received a quit notice from the landlord, the landlord gave him 6months within which to vacate the property.The proprietor was shocked to receive this letter , because he renewed. the rent and obtained a receipt evidencing the payment just 3months ago. He pleaded with the landlord, but the landlord refused, he reasoned that he wanted to make a personal use of the property. The Proprietor. accelerated work on the permanent site of the school, and thereafter moved to the PS of the school before the expiration of the deadline .The Landlord then started his own nursery and primary school on the same.property. He engaged a retired headmistress to run the school for him.In all honesty, this headmistress tried her best possible, and the school was doing fine. The School was doing fine for years, until the landlord/proprietor began to deny the school of the much needed moneys to run the school, pay utility bills and staff.salary. He was only concerned about the school fees paid by the students. The headmistress tried to persuade and convince him, but to no avail.When the headmistress could not withstand pressure from the teachers, she resigned her appointment. That was how the school closed down.The teachers engaged the service of a human right activist/lawyer, and through his effort, they all got all their outstanding salaries, from the landlord. Friends, the landlord was envious of the school proprietor, that was why he handed him a quit notice. He starved his own school of funds to death. Like, I have been saying in the past, If you are the type of person, who loves to play smart, you will end up creating for yourself, a problem that you may not be able to handle. That was exactly what happened to the smart landlord.
