As a seasoned lifter with well over a decades experience, I have yet to understand the stigma regarding the use of the smith machine. The smith machine is an excellent gym tool that can be incorporated in your training regime alongside the essential tools like barbell and dumbbells. Those whove followed me long enough will know I regularly incline bench press with the barbell and dumbbells, I occasionally use the smith machine now and then too. What are the positives? More control of the weight Safer without a spot: If you get into trouble, just twist the barbell to rack it. A personal (and the main) reason for me is, training 7 days a week for the majority of the last 13yrs I need variety! What are the negatives? Little to zero use of stabiliser muscles One plain of motion Lets hear from you guys on your experiences using the smith, do you use it? If yes why? If not, why not?
