THE THIEF COMETH NOT.. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Jn.10:10 See, the only way, or should I say one way, we would get THE WORD right is to FIRST READ IT RIGHT. If we get it wrong in the reading, we are sure to get it wrong in understanding and consequently, in interpreting. Its even worse if we ONLY HEAR it but dont READ IT OURSELVES. For instance, I have heard this scripture read since I came into christianity from islam, with the inclusion of the devil. I have even heard it from myself (Lol)! I have since read it so hard and have tried so hard to see THE DEVIL in this scripture but have not been able. If you would read it in context (not in isolation), you will see that Jesus was not referring to the devil, not even in suggestion. Read it now by heart: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. [2] But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. [3] To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. [4] And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. [5] And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. [6] This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. [7] Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. [8] All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. [9] I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. [12] But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. [13] The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. [14] I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep , and am known of mine. - Jhn.10:1-14 Here, Jesus, in what started as parable, already defined the thief(ves). And the connotation is false shepherd(s), or/ teachers in the sheepfold, not satan! .... whereas, it is true that satan can steal, kill and destroy, but in the sheepfold(Christian community), it is false shepherd(s) /teachers that we should be concerned about, not satan. These false ministers are responsible for most things we blame the devil for! Moreover, if we know the voice of the chief shepherd(1Pet.5:4), we shall know and avoid the voice of the thief shepherd(Jhn.10:10). Pls see this by heart: (KJV)2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. [2] And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. [3] And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. also.. (KJV)Acts 20:28-32 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. [29] For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. [30] Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. [31] Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. [32] And now, brethren, I COMMEND YOU TO GOD, AND TO THE WORD OF HIS GRACE, WHICH IS ABLE TO BUILD YOU UP, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. pls note that it is.. ...He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. Jn.10:1 and.. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Jn.10:10 Good morning.
