THE TUSKEGEE SYPHILIS EXPERIMENT: Please take time to watch the short 6 minute film. The information is important...............As promised, on yesterday we drove to Tuskegee. Home to some greats including Lionel Richie as well as the Commodores group, Rosa Parks, George Washington Carver and many more, as well as playing an instrumental role in the Civil Rights movement. Tuskegee is most infamous for purposely infecting over 400 black men with the STD, Syphilis, from 1930s to the 1970s. Using them as Guinea Pigs to study the effects of the disease on humans as well as discover the treatment, Penicillin, but refused to treat the men they had infected, which led to horrific deaths for some 28 men and mental illness which is one of the first signs of the disease as well as other lifelong disabilities for many of the survivors. In 1994 President Bill Clinton Acknowledged the Governments role in this study and made a public apology to the survivors and the families of the nonsurvivors of this horrendous crime. The Government subsequently admitted to not treating the men but has yet to admit to infecting them.
