THIEVES STEAL FROM CHARITY SHOP IN SHEFFIELD Thieves have been condemned for targeting a charity shop in Sheffield. Staff and volunteers at the British Red Cross shop on Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, said thieves are striking more often than ever before - with a £55 jar of face cleanser the most recent item stolen. It was on sale in the shop for £25. Manager Emma Smith said high value goods, which would make the charity most money, are being repeatedly targeted. “There have always been thefts but just not as often as they are happening now,” she said. “When they have happened in the past we have always felt that whoever had taken something must have been really hard up to have stolen from a charity shop, and we felt sad that somebody would feel so desperate. “But now it seems to have changed and it feels like we are being taken advantage of. It is the high end items they are taking - the Ralph Lauren shirts and Levi jeans for example, things which would make us most money. “The theft of the cleanser was the straw which broke the camel’s back so we have put a notice in the window saying that we hope whoever stole it has lovely skin for the rest of the year.” Emma said staff and volunteers have vowed not to be beaten by the thieves. “It is disappointing that people would deliberately steal from a charity but we will carry on because what we do it too important,” she said Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
