THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EBOLA VIRUS:It is a Central African disease that has travelled over countries in a living host to West Africa. It is easily spread by physical contact & eating contaminated bush meats. Major hosts are 5 species of bats but monkeys & apes are easily infected & killed. It kills in a week,leaving no time to treat an individual. It has no known cure or vaccine. Known cases have being reported in Guinea,Liberia,Sierra-Leone, Central African Republic,Ghana etc,spreading eastwards & westwards towards Nigeria. Death toll so far in West Africais over 100. The Ebola outbreak of 2014 is the most challenging one witnessed in Africa.SYMPTOMS - Headache,weakness,joint & muscle pain,sore throat,chestpain & bleeding from the skin.WHAT SHOULD WE DO?Dr. Johnson advises that 1)Avoid eating any bush meat for now especially monkeys & bats. 2)Wash your hands with soap & water as regularly as possible esp after shaking a stranger. It is easily spread by contact. 3) The most straightforwardprevention method during Ebola outbreak is not touching the patients,their excretas/excretions & body fluids or possible contaminated materials & utensils. Patients shld be isolated & medical staffs shld be trained & apply strict medical/nursing techniques(disposable face masks,glooves,goggles & gowns at all times). Traditional burial rituals,especially those requiring embalming of bodies shld be discouraged or modified.(NB - A case of Ebola infection was reported in Lagos yesterday. And also knw that,the virus is more deadly than HIV/AIDS & most contagious diseases)Awareness is key,dnt just read or ignore,SPREAD this campaign b4 the virus spreads.May God protect us all.
