THIS BEARS REPEATING: Number One rule of Biblical Study: Let the Bible tell you what to believe; dont search the Bible just to find support for your existing opinions! This is major! Too many use the Bible to simply find justification for their personal opinions/actions. Doing this will guarantee that you will be error. The primary purpose of studying the Bible is to find out what God said to us. Then we are to believe and practice what He said. For this to work effectively, we MUST approach the Bible as we would any other written communication and not presume or assume what the writer wanted to say before we even read it, but to read it passively as a listener. No one would receive a letter from an individual, business, or the government and read it with a predetermined opinion of what it says. You simply read the letter and take in the communication, acting accordingly in response to the communication. This is how we must approach Biblical study. Read what it actually says not reading into it what we want it to say!
