Who has wronged you? How badly have you been treated? We have a choice: chokehold or mercy. Jesus speaks of a king who forgave a $6 billion debt, so that a servant didn’t have to become a slave. Relief from lifelong debt – with no strings attached. Wow! Remarkably, the same man then refuses to forgive a debt owed him of only $12,000. With vengeance, the servant chokes his debtor and has him jailed. The king confronts the ruthless man: “You’re wicked. Why did you not show mercy as I showed you?” The king sent him to jail to pay every penny. Make no mistake. Jesus said we’ll face eternal punishment if we don’t forgive. If we CANNOT have mercy, then we CANNOT have the God of mercy in our hearts. If we DO forgive, it’s because the Holy Spirit is in us.
