THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... Dec. 14 1860-Two inches of snow fell at Bentonville. 1914-Severe Arctic cold plunged most lows below zero in the north. 1916-Snow fell across much of northern, central and western Arkansas, with seven inches at Harrison and ten inches at Mount Ida. Three inches fell in the Little Rock area. 1958-Lows were below zero in parts of the northwest. 1970-A tornado hit Marked Tree. 1987-A tornado hit West Memphis, killing six. Ice accumulated in the extreme northwest. Dec. 15 1893-Tornadoes hit Camden, Magnolia, and Cotton Plant. 1901-An Arctic outbreak plunged lows between -6 and 10 above zero. 1914-Most lows were in the single digits. The exception was Mammoth Spring, which fell to -11. 1932-Days after a major ice storm in most of the state, a major snowstorm hit, with the heaviest totals in central and western Arkansas. In Little Rock, a little over six inches of snow fell. At Mount Ida, 11.5 inches fell, and at Mena, 8.5 inches accumulated. The south and east saw mainly ice. 1971-A few tornadoes touched down in the north half. Dec. 16 1870-Three inches of snow fell at Little Rock. 1924-Temperatures reached the 70s and 80s in portions of the state, with the highest readings in the central and south. The temperature reached 83 at Pine Bluff, and 80 at Malvern. 1983-Five to nine inches of snow fell across the south with the most at Horatio. The attached images are...
