DANCE BIO OF JARIEL GARCIA Growing up in Washington Heights, NY, in a Dominican family full of music lovers, salsa music always surrounded the young Jariel Garcia’s life. However, he was too timid to dance to this familiar music until he was taken to his first salsa class by a girl he had a crush on when he was 17. Feeling inspired by both the music and the dance of salsa, Jariel quickly started his training with Salsa Heat Dance Studio and Universal Mambo Dance Academy (UMDA) in Orlando, Florida. As Jariels training started to progress further, he decided that it was time to take the next leap into this art that he loves so much, and that was to perform. By showing casing his dance skills on both (UMDA) and Island Touch Dance Academy performance teams, his overall style and dance skills started to win him recognition over peers, and he was quickly asked to instruct for both Salsa Heat and Island Touch, where he taught both salsa and bachata for the next following 4 years. With his return back to his hometown of NYC in 2011, Jariel started to commit more into training and sharing his passion for the dance that he loves so much. Garcia can be spotted heating up the dance floor with his flavorful and musical social dancing, and in his new salsa classes in NYC where he shares his understanding of Latin Dance movement and musicality in a fun, non-threatening environment. BIO OF DESIREE GODSELL: Born and raised in Houston, Texas, graduated from the High School of Performing and Visual Arts and later went on to receive a B.F.A. in Dance Performance from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Once moving to NYC she began choreographing and dancing for the Atlantic recording artist Santigold touring the world, and has continued to do so for the last 7 years being featured in numerous music festivals and tv shows such as:David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Conan OBrian, Jules Holland, and Stephen Colbert, and MTV. Desiree began her salsa career straight at the top, partnering with the Mambo King himself Eddie Torres. Since then shes danced with Griselle Ponce, Jerseys Finest, Sekou McMiller, Maria Torres, Andy Cruz, and Alex Morel. Shes also starred in La Mambopera off Broadway, was a finalist on Telefuturas Quiero Ser Estrella, shes been an emerging choreographer for two rounds of the E-moves dance concert series at Harlem Stages, and was a salsa coach on two separate MTV MADE episodes! Shes currently dancing and teaching at Caribbean Soul, leading a Latin Dance Theater Workshop with Farrah Benoit, and collaborating on more Latin Dance Projects with Jariel Garcia. Besides dancing Desiree co-produces her own quarterly Multi Media Dance Concert Series in Brooklyn called The Pearl and continues to make works with her own repertory company the Godsell Dance Collective in New York City!
