He falls in love with a girl whose skin color is a shade of white he has never tasted before. My co-writer and co-director is the award-winning cinematographer Christopher Doyle, who shot most of Wong Kar Wais iconic films about Hong Kong, such as IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and ASHES OF TIME, for which he won the top prizes for cinematography at the Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival respectively. Michelle Yeoh (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) is executive-producing the film and will act as well. Du Juan (AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA) is also going to be in it. Seeking people who fit these roles: THE WHITE GIRL (lead/F/15-18 yrs/18 shooting days): An unconventionally beautiful girl with a pale complexion. She is the village outcast and feels very lonely, which she slowly transforms into a fierce independence. She becomes curious about the outside world when she discovers her late mothers belongings and notices that there is a mysterious artist observing her. Must speak Cantonese. Prototype: Zhou Dongyu (UNDER THE HAWTHORNE TREE) HO ZAI (lead/M/8-10 yrs/10-15 shooting days): An entrepreneurial and whimsical child for whom everything is play. He is an orphan and operates many side businesses to earn a living, including an Oyster farm that he believes will some day grow pearls. He steals the artists drawings of The White Girl and shows them to her. Must speak Cantonese. Prototype: Buzz Chung (ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW) KUN (supporting/M/16-18yrs/7 shooting days): The local heartthrob and the Village Chief’s son. Arrogant and smooth-talks all the girls at school. He pursues The White Girl after seeing her swim at the reservoir. Must speak Cantonese. Prototype: Local boy band type, like a young Aarif Lee.
