THIS SAT AT 8:30 AM FREE TO SEE WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT What is Qi Gong? Qi gong is an ancient health care system that utilizes physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. The literal translation of qi gong is LIFE ENERGY CULTIVATION. It isnt known exactly when qi gong was developed but there are written references that place its beginning around 5000 years ago. It could be assumed that portions of Tradition Chinese Medicine were developed from the practice of Qi gong. Another assumption that could made is that the Chinese martial arts, both internal and combative, most likely were developed from the practice of Qi gong. Qi gong is a form of moving meditation that ties postures and movements to the breath with specific intent as to become fully aware of body, mind, and spirit. It is the practice, not necessarily the perfection of the movements, that is important. As with all things, the more you do it the better you become at the performance. What makes Qi Gong different is that the more you practice the more pure your intent becomes, creating a cognitive connection between mind and body, a knowing. Our own intent is the greatest healing power in the world. All qi gong postures have been designed to massage the meridian system, to remove energy blocks that can cause depleted energy or an over abundance in any given area of your body. Most qi gong forms are designed as sets of postures to address the most common areas of the body which can develop blockages. There are literally thousands of qi gong forms since many different families developed individual styles of qi gong. Some of the most familiar of those family names are Yang, Chen, and Wu. In the last few years qi gong has become more and more popular, as both an exercise routine and as physical therapy. Qi gong is practiced by people who suffer from various maladies that cannot be addressed by standard medicine. It has shown itself to be beneficial in addressing various forms of arthritis, cancer, many of the auto-immune symptoms, hypertension, diabetes, and many others dis-eases. It is thought that an imbalance in ones energy system causes a majority of these dis-eases and that balancing the energy system will relieve or eliminate these afflictions. If nothing else, practicing qi gong will increase joint flexibility, strengthen muscles, improve balance, and calm the mind. These alone can provide us with some very powerful effects to improving our wellness, to be healthier and happier.
