TIP: Folder Focused Filter This script takes advantage of a field within each track that I rarely use, the Grouping Field. As I “Groom” my tracks for usability, I use several fields within each track: 1.) Set first cue point in every track. Usually first danceable beat of music. (Could be the 1 or 2 of the bar) 2.) Give the track a Genre 3.) Give Rating (All tracks groomed get a minimum Rating of 1) 4. Colorize (Within genre, I assigned colors to genre. I may use the same color in a different genre. (Colors allows me to visually see my set programing) 5.) Write “Latin” in the Grouping field (You can name this whatever you want. Swing, Club, EDM, Reggae, etc.) 6.) Use the BPM Editor and adjust the CBG to first cue point. 7.) Place tracks in an Unmonitored folder named Latin Club Sets (makes Using the COPY TO command much easier for backup) A lot of work? Yes. But with the amount of music pouring in from music pools and elsewhere, there is no way to listen to every track with enough depth to Know your music the way we used to. These days, I need tools, lots of tools to get the job done. It is what it is. All of this work pays off in dividends at the event when Im as calm as a cucumber finding tracks that work with most of the guess work eliminated. BTW: How the mix sounds to my ear is the final decision. Everything may match up BPM and Key wise but the two tracks still suck when played together. I began wondering, what if I used the Grouping Field to group tracks that I Groomed by dance style? (Latin, Swing, Ballroom, Club, Dance, Soca, and so on.) If I did this, could I then create a script for use in a filtered folder that would allow me to find compatible tracks to my live track during a gig? Could I also have the filter only look in this “Groomed Folder? After experimenting I discovered that the answer was Absolutely yes to all of my questions. Here’s the cool script: Grouping starts with Latin and genre= salsa and bpm difference
