TITLE: Tabitha & Brian Love Story AUTHOR: Brian Mbanacho EPISODE: 2 (Journey To The City) The bus came to a halt and the passengers got out one after the other. I thought we had arrived in Nairobi, so when no one bothered to take their bags with them, I was perturbed. However, when the conductor shouted that we were in Nakuru and that we had 15 minutes to refresh before the journey continued I relaxed. Tabitha, who had fallen asleep earlier on, was still deep in slumber. Her head was resting on my chest while her hands cuddled on my thighs. I looked at her with admiration, gently stroked her hair before waking her up. I needed to get something to eat since my stomach was in dire need. She lazily raised her head, eyes still heavy with sleep, and asked in an almost lifeless voice, Where are we? Nakuru...I heard. I was thinking that maybe we can get something to eat, personally, I am starving, arent you? Well...now that you have woke me up, I think I can now feel the pang of hunger. She replied with a smile. I helped her seat upright before pointing out to the well lit hotel outside, Shall we? We delighted from the bus and after placing her order, fries with fried chicken, she excused herself to visit the ladies washrooms. I opted for coffee with a bite, partly because it was cold (we were traveling at night) and partly because I wanted to cut down on the expenses, since I was footing the bill. She came back and found that I had secured a table for us. Huh, so I am the only one eating here. I thought you too were starving? she asked on realizing that I was only having coffee. This Is enough to neutralize my hunger. I usually dont have a heavy meal when its way past meal time. So I prefered coffee. I said while holding up my cup. we remained silent for the next few minutes and I kept on throwing quick glances at her and occasionally, she would catch me doing it. She simply smiled when she did. So, for how long will you be in the City? I asked. One month, I guess. Then I will be back to Msonobari. I hope I will be seeing more of you in that one month. It was more of a suggestion than a question, but I still hoped she would answer. Sure...I mean why not? she winked. I sighed with relief, happy that she didnt dismiss the idea. Though I hadnt said anything to her to suggest that I needed us to be more than friends yet, I felt as though she already knew and she was okey with it. Men in Msonobari dream of just shaking her hand, yet here I am, totally alone with her and at night. I am a lucky man. I thought. I looked straight to her eyes and whispered You are so beautiful Tabitha. She looked startled since that just came out of the blues. I continued to give her that lustful stare until she decided to say something. Thank you. And you are not so bad yourself. we both laughed as I sipped the last drop of coffee from my cup. I signaled her to finish her food faster since our 15 minutes were over, and she did. Thank you for taking good care of me. she said while holding my waist as we made our way back to the bus, causing a ripple of shiver down my spine. As we resumed our seats, I reminded her to give me her mobile number, which she gave me her sisters, since she did not own a phone. The bus engine roared again and this time, we did not just converse, but also engulfed on each others arms. Half an hour later, she kissed me on the forehead wishing me a nice sleep. She closed her eyes and I did mine, not to sleep, but to pray that God makes her mine. It felt like the right time to believe in the power of prayer.
