What I once built, I set aflame. Because my heart, you shall no longer claim. My heart was a house on fire. And your tears were nothing but rain - a temporary fix. Because my heart burned from the inside, pain, jumped from wall to wall. The smoke filled the air like sleepless ghosts looking for a new home to haunt. I burned the house. For that was all it became when you left me for another. What is a home without people in it? What is my life without you in it? I watched the flames dance the way you once danced in my dreams. I watched the dreams you and I made go up in smoke. 4 years. 4 years of memories, I watched be blown away into the wind. Now the deed is done. The fires have died down. I kick up the ashes. Ashes of the house that I once built for you. And I think to myself... Woman you can break my heart. But you will never break my pride. I will not curl in pain. I will not look back. I take each step with conviction, never to stray into your arms again. Now its been a while. Ive walked far, here and there. Ive put the ghosts to rest. Ive built a house for someone new.
