TNR Supporters and Advocates, On Sept 4th at 4:30, there will be an Animal Shelter Advisory Board meeting at the Bedford Police Dept. I will request a follow up discussion about the TNR presentation from the last meeting and any further consideration for TNR in Bedford. It is important that people from the community who support TNR are at the meeting to show the City and the Shelter Board that you are in favor for TNR in Bedford. The meeting should be approx. an hour or a little longer. In addition, please email to the City and Shelter officials stating your support for TNR to address the feral cats vs. trap and kill in Bedford. Feral cats are killed due to their un-adoptable temperament. The animal shelter becomes inundated with cats and kittens every day that cannot be adopted and the endless trap and kill cycle continues. Numerous studies have shown that cities and communities that practice the TNR (trap/neuter/release) method to reduce feral cat reproduction have significantly lowered the feral cat population, and in turn less feral cats and kittens end up in the city shelters. TNR not only reduces feral cats in a humane manner but also reduces money spent on killing, disposing, and the manpower it costs our city and tax dollars as they try to address the endless cycle of feral cats ending up in the shelters, to no avail. The animals desperately need our help and support to convince the City and Shelter officials that the community is in support of TNR, to help make these changes. It takes a village to help these defenseless animals. They can’t speak so we have to speak for them. I go to the shelter at least once a week and it breaks my heart knowing these animals are killed while using our city tax dollars and there is an alternative and more effective solution. Let’s put an end to this senseless killing and an end to so many kittens ending up at the city shelter! Many other cities nationwide and even around us including Ft Worth, Irving, Dallas, Arlington, Austin, San Antonio, Waco…just to name a few, are embracing TNR to address this matter. Let’s be a part of the growing number of communities that are making changes to help animals, reduce cost and improve our city image by embracing TNR. I enclosed the City and Shelter officials’ email addresses and a sample of what you could say in your email. If you have any questions or want to learn more about how to TNR or what actually TNR means or learn more about the studies, I will be happy to inform you. Thanks for your support... Connie... I am a resident of Bedford and I would like to see TNR implemented in Bedford to address and reduce the feral cat population. I ask the City Council to consider and pass a TNR policy/ordinance. There are fiscal and humane benefits to a TNR policy. Thank you, Your name
