TODAYS FIRST WORLD PROBLEM: We are painting the Living Room. THe plan was that I would do prep work and any painting that did not require looking up (because of balance issues). This morning, after getting everything taped off, I went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast (cinnamon rolls, eggs, bacon). I went back into the living room, and saw Mr TF starting on the ceiling (we had planned to do walls first). He noted that the color was different that he expected. ME: What did you expect? Its the same ceiling color we used in the bedroom. HIM: No! Its that new color you picked for the Living Room. ME: The new color for the Living Room is the WALL color, not the ceiling color. The ceiling is supposed to be the same as the bedroom. HIM: But theyre both white. Whats the difference? ME: First of all, neither is white. The ceiling is Swiss Coffee flat enamel formulated for ceilings. The wall paint is Innocence eggshell enamel. HIM: Yeah, but theyre both white. Cant I use go ahead and finish using this on the ceiling? ME: No! Because then the walls and the ceiling will be the same color! And the ceiling would turn out shiny. Unless thats the effect youre going for. HIM: YEAH BUT THEYRE BOTH WHITE. ME: No, Innocence is a warm white, while Swiss Coffee is brighter and whiter. HIM: So youre saying theyre both white. ME: Thats like saying navy blue and turquoise are interchangeable colors. Theyre both blue, but they are very different colors. We got it straightened out. The same thing happened when he went to paint the bedroom ceiling... used the semi-gloss paint that was for the cabinets. Training him now to say, Which can? before he takes a stroke. And just a note: Innocence was not my first color choice.I was torn between Parmesan and Camenbert. But we decided to buy the paint locally, so I had to choose a shade similar to those two. Let me go now... off to fondle my stack of paint chips....
