TODAYS NEW BLOG POST! Nothing: Why It’s The Most Productive Thing We Can Do When was the last time you did absolutely nothing? I’m not talking about the “nothing” that is polluted by Facebook stalking, Instagram scrolling, TV watching or any other tech distraction. I’m talking about pure nothing. Being in the moment and being content with nothing besides your own, undivided attention. No goals, no distractions, no doing anything what-so-ever. The power, the magic, and the awareness that comes from this place is all kinds of sacred awesome. It’s about less doing and more being. You know the cliché : we’re human beings, not human doings. The best clichés hold the best wisdom. Don’t dismiss them. This one, in particular, is golden. Coming off the back of one of the busiest periods of my life – caring for my mum, launching a book, completing a national speaking tour, and up-holding an online business – I’m relishing in my new-found appreciation of pure nothing. There are times when we need to go at it with full-on drive to get the good shiz done, but then that period of pushing it needs to be balanced out with some pulling back and mindfully pausing. Now, instead of letting my to-do list dictate how much free time I have in the day, I tune in and have my body tell me when it needs to pause for a moment, or longer. If I feel called to take a break, I’ll use the time to lie on the couch for a bit and just stare out the window. Or I’ll sit outside and be awed by this gorgeous natural world we live in. Some breaks are still consumed by stalking style blogs, but I’ve come to realise just how important it is to have many breaks throughout the day that are consumed by nothing. And you know what? My to-do list is still being completed each week. But it’s being done with less angst and more flow. A few benefits of doing nothing: + It brings you out of your head and back into your body. + It allows you to hear messages your body is trying to get through to you. + It helps you gain healthy perspective on your current situation. + It leads to inspired problem solving. + It reminds you to breathe. To just BE. Have you experienced the benefits of doing nothing? How does the thought of this kind of down-time make you feel?
