TODAYS NOTABLE TEXAN ROD RODDY AUGUST 4th 2014 Robert Ray Rod Roddy from Ft. Worth Texas was an American radio and television announcer. He is primarily known for his role as the announcer on game shows such as “The Price Is Right:. Among the shows that he announced are the CBS game shows Whew!, Press Your Luck and The Price Is Right. After graduating from Texas Christian University (TCU), Roddy was a disc jockey and talk show host on KLIF and KNUS-FM (Dallas, Texas). At KLIF and KNUS during the 1970s, Roddy hosted a call-in program, Rod Roddys Hotline, whose controversial host and topics made Roddy a frequent target of death threats. After Goodson-Todman announcer Johnny Olson died in October 1985, Roddy was chosen as one of several substitute announcers on their many game shows. On February 1986 Roddy was announced as The Price is Right’s regular announcer. Roddy died of Colon cancer in 1993. He is well remembered for his song-like “shout outs” of a audience member’s name followed with: “COME ON DOWN! You’re the next contestant on The Price is Right!”
